Duke of Edinburgh Files and Information

Staff and students have helped to create the Cambourne Character Traits.
These are the three characteristics we believe as a school are important and worth investing time to develop.
Therefore, building these character traits in our student body will be at the heart of our school enrichment strategy.

Clubs and Trips
All clubs and trips will map onto the ‘Cambourne Character Traits’.

Fixtures
Wednesdays after school.
Any upcoming fixtures will be updated here as much as possible, but if you think something may be missing, please contact the PE Department for more information.
There are a large number of fixtures that take place across the year and many pupils are selected for these based on the participation in clubs.
Parents should note that pupils will be selected and informed about fixtures prior to the event and given the timings of these and details about the location and what to wear. This information is displayed on the board outside the PE office for all pupils to see.
It is expected that it is pupils’ responsibility to pass on this information to parents.
We therefore do not get written consent for every fixture each week.
If any parent does not agree with their child being selected and taken on fixtures in this way please contact the school to make alternative arrangements.
Sport Activators
The Sports Activators programme is a stepping stone into the Sports Leaders Academy. It is aimed at students who are demonstrating excellent effort, commitment and attitude in their PE lessons, clubs and fixtures and who are fully involved in school sport and PE. The programme celebrates these students but also helps to develop some of their leadership, officiating and coaching skills in preparation for the future.
Articles will appear below throughout the year that are written by pupils demonstrating awareness of different aspects of sport, as part of the application process to become Sports Activators.
Music Clubs
We offer a wide range of clubs with plenty of performance opportunities for groups and soloists throughout the year.
Monday 3-4pm: Orchestra (for all instrumentalists, years 7-12)
Tuesday 3-4pm: Junior choir (years 7 and 8)
Tuesday 3-4pm: Jazz Band (year 9+)
Wednesday lunchtime: String orchestra (years 7-12)
Thursday 3-5pm: Production rehearsals
Friday 3-4pm: Senior choir (years 9+)
Places in each group will be limited to 15 pupils per session, so you will need to sign up to take part by emailing Mr Silcock: [email protected]
If more than 15 pupils are interested in attending each activity, we may have to operate a two-week rotation to accommodate everyone. As places are limited, we ask if your child signs up, that they commit to coming to all rehearsals (unless they are not in school).
Instrument Lessons
Click HERE to fill in the online application form for instrument or singing lessons at Cambourne Village College.
Learning to play a musical instrument can be an exciting and enjoyable experience for young people. We are fortunate to employ our own team of highly skilled instrument tutors and offer a wide range of instruments for all pupils to learn.
The Music School has developed and grown in size over many years and currently there are over 150 pupils learning to play instruments, performing in concerts and productions and successfully passing exams.
If you have any further questions, having read through the information, please do not hesitate to contact us. An application form is available from the left menu, and we look forward to welcoming your child to our Music School and helping them to enjoy music.

Duke of Edinburgh

“Not all learning happens in the classroom. Young people need experiences outside the classroom to become committed, responsible and fulfilled citizens of the world. The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is available to young people year 9 and above and is the world’s leading youth achievement award. It equips young people for life regardless of their background, culture, physical ability, skills and interests. Doing the Award is a personal challenge and not a competition against others; it pushes young people to their personal limits and recognises their achievements. Since its launch over 60 years ago, the Award has inspired millions of young people to transform their lives. Through non formal education, the Award can play a critical role in a young person’s personal development and is achievable by any eligible young people who wants to take up the challenge.”
There is a lot of information that we would like to share with parents and pupils before they decide to enrol: what it is, why you should do it, what it involves, how to enrol, what it costs, and the details about the expedition section. When your child starts year 9, a launch meeting is held to inform you on what the DofE means, what it entails and how to enrol your child.
In this section of our website, you will find various forms and documents which will help you and your child throughout the process. Do not hesitate to contact me should you have any queries.
If you would like further information about the Award please see the national DofE website: www.dofe.org
Once a pupil is enrolled, they will be given access to the eDofE where they will be able to track their progress on their Volunteering, Skills and Physical sections | www.edofe.org
To students in year 10, we can now offer Silver DofE. Silver is more challenging than the Bronze award but sure to be more rewarding as well. A launch assembly will be held to inform the students on what the DofE means, what it entails and how they can be enrolled.

“Just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and all the teachers/adults who helped make the D of E expedition such a success.
Despite the weather, muddy fields, aching bones and sore feet, my daughter absolutely loved it and I am so grateful to you all for making sure she got back safely. Thank you.”
