Welcome from the Head of Year 7
Year 7 plays a pivotal role in laying strong foundations upon which students can build throughout their time in secondary education. At Cambourne Village College, we are committed to ensuring that all students are supported in fulfilling their academic potential whilst understanding that helping students to build emotional resilience and look after their mental wellbeing are crucial aspects of achieving this.
As a year team, we are committed to providing outstanding pastoral care for your children. Our form tutors are dedicated professionals who put the needs of their tutees first. The relationship forged between tutee and tutor is special and I have every confidence that your child will find the support of their tutor to be an invaluable resource during their first year with us and beyond. I would encourage you to communicate with your child’s tutor any queries or concerns you may have; they are their first point of contact every day and are ideally placed to act upon information you may need to relay.
The pastoral programme that tutors will deliver each morning has been designed to stimulate students’ interest in events and issues that are significant in their community and in wider society too. Fundamentally, we will have a continuing focus on the development of self-belief, respect and kindness in every child. I am looking forward to all students in Year 7 becoming renowned for their kindness towards each other, politeness to staff and their dedication to all their studies.
I also very much look forward to working with all students, staff and importantly, parents to help our year group achieve the very best at Cambourne Village College.

Welcome from the Head of Year 8
By now, your child has established new friendships and adjusted to life at secondary school. Year 8 affords all students a fresh opportunity to build on successes and, where necessary, the support to make course corrections. Having witnessed first-hand the level of positivity and fortitude among this group of students, I am certain that they will make the most of this important year in their secondary education.
With adaptability of paramount importance, Year 8 students will be encouraged to seek out new ways to stretch and test themselves, outside of lessons as well as within. We engage our students with a rich curriculum across all our departments—Year 8 students will develop their understanding of topics at a deeper level and be empowered to pursue areas of interest piqued in Year 7. It was a pleasure, across last year, to discover the numerous talents, passions and skills that so many of this year group possess, ranging from sport, to music, to drama and art. I would encourage all Year 8 students to continue to use lessons and extra-curricular activities to foster these areas of interest and inspire their creativity to flourish.
As ever, the Year 8 team will strive to ensure that students under our care receive an excellent standard of pastoral care. I am very proud of the relationships that our tutors have established with their tutees and am certain that Year 8 students will continue to look to these key members of staff to help support them through issues that arise throughout this year. Our pastoral programme will focus on addressing ways to help students build resilience, on engaging with school and local civic initiatives and on making sure students are empowered to identify and interact with the national and global issues that affect all our lives.
I look forward to working with Year 8 students and parents alike to help make this year an enjoyable, productive and successful one.
Mr Luke Young

Welcome from the Head of Year 9
Year 9 is, undoubtedly, an important and exciting time for students at Cambourne Village College. With the GCSE options process taking place, decisions that students will make in Year 9 will impact not only the rest of their time at Cambourne Village College but also their long-term futures. Throughout this process, I would encourage all students to communicate any concerns/queries with their subject specialist teachers, who are able to offer detailed and expert insight at this critical time, as well as with parents/carers at home. As ever, the Year 9 pastoral team will be on hand to advise, guide and support.
The Year 9 team is dedicated to ensuring that our students receive an excellent standard of pastoral care. The relationships that our tutors have established with their tutees over the past two years is fundamental to this and I am confident Year 9 students will continue to look to these key members of staff to help support them through issues that arise throughout this year. Please do communicate with your child’s tutor any queries or concerns you may have; they are their first point of contact every day and are ideally placed to act upon information you may need to relay.
In this final year of their Key Stage 3 education, I am looking forward to seeing my cohort’s development continue and flourish. The enthusiasm, ambition and dedication to their studies that has become characteristic of this group of young people will, I am confident, help to ensure that this year is every bit as successful as those that have preceded it.

Welcome from the Heads of Year
After 3 years of effort, our Year 10 pupils enter their crucial GCSE courses where their hard work in Key Stage 3 comes to fruition. At the same time, after making strong starts in their courses last year, our Year 11 pupils move towards their final exams at the end of the academic year. As Year 10 and 11 teams, we are dedicated to helping our pupils on this vital stage of their education with us. In order to maximise this, we are keen to work collaboratively with parents and guardians in order to guide and support all of our pupils so that they can achieve excellent results. Our aim is for every student to enter the exam hall confident in their ability to secure the best grades possible.
During their time at Cambourne Village College, we have been proud to see our cohorts mature and develop into respectful and conscientious young people. At the same time, our pupils have achieved excellent results at the end of Key Stage 3, rewarding their effort and determination. Their enthusiasm for their studies helps to inspire us to do our best to support them on their journey to success. We are looking forward to another year of hard work, achievement and fun in Key Stage 4 and we would like to thank all parents and guardians for your continued support. We will continue to work with you to ensure that our pupils achieve the best outcomes they are capable of and are confident that our combined efforts as pupils, parents/carers and staff will culminate in excellent results in their final years of study.

During Enrichment Week in July, it is traditional for Year 7 pupils to visit Beaumanor Hall in Leicestershire for a four-day outdoor activities experience. It is always our intention to take the entire year group. Staying in cabins or under canvas, the pupils take part in archery, canoeing, high ropes, climbing, and orienteering, supervised by fully qualified instructors. Cambourne Village College staff accompany the groups at all times and lead additional activities such as group challenges and a craft-based session. Excellent food is provided, the evening meal being taken in the dining room of the manor house, and events such as quizzes, sports competitions, and the ever-popular hide-and–seek in the dark cellars under the house are all popular evening activities. A talent show and disco are held on the last night.
The cost is expected to be £360 per pupil, payable in 6 instalments, with the first instalment being paid at the start of January. We consider this residential an integral part of the year 7 curriculum and ask parents to prioritise this visit for their children ahead of other opportunities offered in Year 7, if paying for more than one visit is not possible. We are able to offer some support in cases of economic hardship. The trip provides an excellent chance for pupils and staff to get to know each other in a less formal setting, and we focus on developing the skills from our PSHE programme, encouraging the children to be active and creative in acquiring new skills, supporting each other with empathy, reasoning their way through challenges, and showing tenacity when the activities are demanding.
An evening presentation is held before the visit to provide parents with further information.

Work experience is a great opportunity for Year 10 pupils to experience the world of work and begin to think about their future. They will also develop numerous skills before and during their work experience;
- Writing a CV
- Working in a professional environment
- Time management
- Responsibility
The work experience process is launched during the first half of the Autumn Term each year, with a checkpoint to monitor progress towards the end of the Autumn Term. During PSHE lessons, pupils will learn how to compile a CV and how to make contact with companies via email/phone. All work experience forms must be completed soon after the Christmas break with all placements confirmed before Spring Half Term. Members of Cambourne VC staff will visit pupils during their placements.
If you are a local business, employer or organisation and would like to offer a work experience placement to one, or some, of our students we would love to hear from you. Please contact Mrs V McCormack to discuss the opportunity that you may have in mind.
Yr10 work experience 13-17th July 2026
As a school we place huge value on work experience. It provides an opportunity for pupils to develop the skills needed to contact businesses and show the qualities they have for working in a particular environment; a work experience placement will help them learn more about the working world and the see the links between school and the workplace.
Early organisation of placements is important where possible as several other Cambridgeshire schools will be on work experience at the same time.
We use UNIFROG to record and track work experience placements. Students will receive more information about accessing this directly.
